*********************************** Songs Out Of Clay - Al Stewart *********************************** Notated by Adam Woolfe Intro: F/E E F/E E F/E E Am F E Oh I know that you are an artist she said Am F C E For you make your songs out of clay F E You carry the dust on your hands and your knees Am F C You never quite brushed it away F Dm You were trying to chisel a perfect truth C G When the instrument broke in your hand Dm F Now you sit alone on the greenhouse roof Esus4 E With your shoes full of sand. Am C And the golden rays of the sun G F Divide in the slanting mists of the rain C E Am ----> next verse And Maggie is on the road again. Between the 2 choruses at the end the chords are: Am C D Am The ending is the same as the intro, finishing on E. The Orange version is recorded a key lower in Abm. I'm not too sure how to play the intro chord: F/E which is, I think, an F chord on the top 3 strings at the 8th fret with an extra E bass note added giving the dissonance. This E was possibly achieved by tuning the 'D string' to E. Any suggestions welcome of course....
