***************** Small Fruit Song (Al Stewart) ***************** First version: There was a time in the late sixties when the entrance fee to the folkies guitar brethren was the ability to play Angie (Davey Graham, not Rolling Stones). Bert Jansch on his first album, and I think even Paul Simon put it on an album. Later on, the rockers guitar brethren entrance dues was the ability to play the intro to "Stairway to Heaven", which is why the "No Stairway to Heaven" sign in the guitar store in Wayne's World I, the movie, is so apropos and right on the money. Anyway, "A minor" sounds great on a guitar, and Small Fruit Song uses the same kind of playing as Angie. Capo on 3rd fret for RiR version. Play A minor and your little finger (or any spare finger or thumb) has to reach the 6th string while your first finger hammers on and off the first fret of the second string. The intro is basically A minor shapes, with the changes being done with the little finger going to the 3rd fret of 6th string, then 2nd fret then first fret. When you get to the singing part you skip that 6th string 2nd fret, and go from 3rd fret to 1st fret. "A minor 3" is A minor with your little finger on 3rd fret 6th string. [A minor] Said the apple to the [Aminor3] Orange Oh I [F]wanted you to to [E]come [Aminor}Close to me and [C] thrill me to the [Aminor] core Then [C]you might know me [A minor] like no Other [F]Orange Has [E] ever done be[A minor]fore. Disclaimer: chords are approximate. It's fingerpicking, not strumming. Don't get blisters.
