Mixed Blessing by Al Stewart transcription by Terry Carroll [Intro:] |: Fm Db :| [Verse 1:] Fm Cm C She never learned her lesson; she had to have it all. Fm Cm C It was a real mixed blessing; I don't believe she saw. Fm Cm C She liked to keep them guessing. Some time later on, Fm Db C she'd gather her possessions and be gone [Chorus:] Fm Db Eb Fm When the night comes following from the clear blue sky, Fm Db Eb Fm you can see her running. Don't you wonder why? Fm Db Eb Fm When the light goes fading from her clear blue eyes, Fm Db Fsus4/Bb only in the darkest places will she feel at home Fm tonight. [Verse 2:] Fm Cm C From time to time I'd see her. It wasn't like before. Fm Cm C No matter what you gave her, she always wanted more Fm Cm C Her life was getting fractured. She didn't seem to care. Fm Db C Wherever there was action, she'd be there [Repeat Chorus] [Solo: (same as chorus)] |: Fm Db Eb Fm :| (3x) Fm Db Fsus4/Bb Fm [Verse 3:] Fm Cm C She never learned her lesson. She had to take that fall. Fm Db C It was a real mixed blessing after all. ======== Notes: 1. In verses 1 & 3, I have "She never learned her lesson." I'm pretty sure (I'd qualify it at 95%) that those are the correct lyrics, and not "She never learned to listen," or something similar. 2. In the chorus, I have "from her clear blue eyes." I'm moderately sure that this is correct (I'd quantify it at 75%), but it could be "cool blue eyes" or "cobalt eyes." 3. In a first draft, in the chorus I had had "falling" rather than "following." Jeff Johannes instructed me in the fine art of counting syllables, and I agree with him that it's "following." 4. Finally, I went through a lot of different chords on that mystery chord in the chorus. I think I've got it right, but I'm not sure. Some of the others I tried were Bb7 and Adim. I finally settled on Fsus4/Bb. Anyone have a better idea?
